I think that both the UK additions (children’s and adult’s) have covers that make perfect sense within the context of the books.  I am still unsure of what the US cover is depicting.  What are Harry and Voldemort reaching for?  Where are they exactly?  What are the curtains?

If you have any ideas, let me know.  I’m sure that you will only be able to write a comment that contains spoilers, so for those of you who have not yet finished Deathly Hallows, please don’t read the comments!!!!

Scholastic is asking you what are the Deathly Hallows.  Head to their Shrieking Shack Poll to let them know when you think we’ll find out – in the beginning, middle, or end of the last book.

I am more interested in hearing what you think the Deathly Hallows are?  I have only one theory on the subject and it stems from Mary GrandPre’s illustration on the cover of The Deathly Hallows.   She shows Voldemort and Harry battling in front of an audience of shadowy people, but in the foreground, directly in front of Voldemort and Harry, are curtains.  This makes me wonder if we are looking into the Veil that Sirius fell through in Order of the Phoenix.  What do you think?

For those of you who do not have any plans for the release of Book 7 check out what Scholastic is planning for Friday, July 20th.  On Mercer Street in New York City there will be a magical, interactive Harry Potter experience from 5 pm to 11pm.  The Knight Bus will be there, a 20-foot replica of the Whomping Willow will be erected, and there will be an opportunity to pick up a copy of The Deathly Hallows at a midnight release of Book 7 at the Scholastic Store.  For more information check out Mugglenet’s coverage of this event.

Scholastic has posted the sixth of their seven questions about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  Will Voldemort be defeated?  Visit the Shrieking Shack to vote with your answer.

I don’t see how the books can end with Voldemort still at large.  I also don’t think that he can be defeated without dying, so my personal opinion is that he will be defeated and die.  Another big question is whether or not Harry Potter will live or die.  If he does happen to die, I believe it will be during a final battle with Voldemort and that it would happen only after Voldemort is defeated.  I am curious to see where this final battle will take place and who will be there to witness the defeat.  Snape and Wormtail are two possibilities and I believe that either one or both will help Harry in the end.  A good place for this final showdown could be Hogwarts – maybe it is where the final horcrux will be found and destroyed?

What do you think?  Can the series end with Voldemort still in power?

Visit Scholastic’s site to answer their latest question – where are the remainder of the horcruxes?

I’ll be addressing this particular question in more detail later, but send me your thoughts and ideas to include in a later posting!  I think this particular question deserves a lot of attention, and will most likely be the focal point of Book 7.  I’m curious to hear your opinions.

It’s seven weeks before the seventh Harry Potter book is released and Scholastic is celebrating by sending out the Knight Bus on a seven week tour.  It will be stopping at 37 libraries throughout the country and allowing fans to hop on the bus to make a video diary of their thoughts on the books.   Check out the Scholastic’s site to see when the bus will be visiting your area.

Scholastic asks Harry Potter fans who winds up with whom.  Their choices are:

  • Harry and Ginny
  • Ron and Hermione
  • Harry and Hermione
  • Lupin and Tonks

Let us know what you think or visit their site to vote in the Shrieking Shack.

There was an interesting article in New York Magazine the other day that examined the covers of the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.   There are some interesting observations in the article.  First of all, the US cover is giving us very little information.  We see Harry on the front and an image of a scary-looking Voldemort on the back.

However, let’s view the U.K. Children’s cover.  Now, we have a little more to go by.  Harry, Ron, and Hermione are falling into a large pile of treasure, but who is with them?  Look at the cover a little more closely.  You’ll see an ear popping up above Harry’s shoulder.  Who is that and why is he there?

Dobby, as loyal and faithful to Harry as ever, is apparently joining the threesome on their quest.

What do you think of the cover?  What predictions do you make based on the image?

Scholastic’s third question is one that has been discussed at length by many fans since the 6th Book.  We were left to wonder whether or not Hogwarts would be allowed to reopen.  It is hard to imagine a Hogwarts without Dumbledore, and there is a question of the students’ safety.   But what do you think?  Will Hogwarts reopen?  And if they do, will Hermione, Ron, and Harry be attending for their final year?

Hogwarts

It is my own opinion that Hogwarts has to reopen for the next year.  Like Professor Sprout said, “I feel that if a single pupil wants to come, then the school ought to remain open for that pupil.”  However, I do not believe Ron, Hermione, or Harry will be attending, but they will be visiting the school at some point to find answers.  Do you agree?
