J.K. Rowling is writing an encyclopedia that should touch on many side stories and characters that we would love to know more about, but do you have any ideas for your own short story?  Would you like to write a chapter on Dumbledore’s battle with Grindelwald?  Or how about drawing a scene depicting the young Padfoot, Prongs, Wormtail, and Moony?  Write a paragraph, page, or whole novel and either send it in as a comment or email it to voatis@norwalkpubliclibrary.org and I’ll put it on the blog.  We’ll also be starting a binder of your stories in the library for others to read.

Give us your best stories, novels, paintings, drawings, or even video dedications to Harry Potter!

July is here – the month both the new Harry Potter movie and book come out.  Only 8 more days until Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix hits theaters and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released in bookstores.

We’re having our own celebrations at the Norwalk Public Library with two Games & Discussion nights on July 5th and 12th at 6 pm.  Enjoy games, treats, and discussions of the new theories.

Check out the Hot and Cold Stuff Recipe Blog to make your own magical treats.

How are you going to celebrate this month?

Harry’s parents have always been somewhat of a mystery. We know how much Harry looks like his father and it has been said numerous times that he has his mother’s eyes, but the only real information we have about their characters is what we learned from Snape’s memory in The Order of the Phoenix. James was a troublemaker and always seeking attention, but who exactly was Lily Potter? Is there a significance to Harry having her eyes? J.K. Rowling has said in interviews that we will learn something incredibly important about Lily Potter in Book 7. What could this be and how will it effect Harry and his mission?

At the end of book 6, Harry firmly believes that Snape has finally shown his true colors when he kills Dumbledore. Many disagree. After all, Snape previously had chances to let Harry die, and instead had saved him. Dumbledore trusted Snape implicitly…despite his history as a Death-eater, and Dumbledore was no fool. What was Dumbledore pleading for when he spoke to Snape before he died? Snape hated Harry’s father, but what was his relationship with Harry’s mother? These questions and many other contradictions in Snape’s actions make it difficult to jump to the conclusion that Snape is, indeed, the villian Harry has always felt him to be. So, let the argument begin…

Scholastic, publisher of the Harry Potter series, has kicked off it’s marketing campaign today for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. By going to their website at http://www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/home.asp you may download bookmarks and posters, and new ones will be added periodically. Over the next few weeks, they will be releasing seven questions that people are discussing all over the world that Book 7 should answer. The first question, released today, is “Who will live, who will die?” Go to their site to cast your vote.

So, “Who will live, who will die?” I, myself, hope that Harry Potter will live, but this has been a question on every fan’s mind since they read the last book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. According to the prophecy Dumbledore witnessed Sybil Trelawney make, “either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives.” This can have many meanings, but most people believe that Harry must kill Voldemort in order to survive, or vice versa. I believe that Voldemort will not survive and that Harry will. Other beloved characters may not share this same fate – we must still wonder if Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Hagrid, etc. will survive.

I ask you, fans of Harry Potter, what you think. “Who will live, who will die?”

Enjoy the magical world of Harry Potter at the Norwalk Public Library. There are only 93 days until the fifth movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix comes to theaters on July 13th and 101 days until the seventh and final book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows hits the stores on July 21st. The Norwalk Public Library is planning some great events we hope you’ll attend, but in the meantime we thought you might want to share some thoughts, feelings, ideas, and theories with other fans in the area.
